Two-Days Intra-College Sports Meet At GDC Vijaypur Under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan And G20

Sports play important part in our life and teach us lessons like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, accountability and teamwork. Sports increases blood flow to the brain and helps the body build more connections between nerves, leading to increased concentration, enhanced memory, stimulated creativity, and better-developed problem solving skills. So, keeping in view the importance of sports and games and to prevent oneself from the addiction of harmful and deadly drugs, GDC Vijaypur under the banner of Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan initiated by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and under the gamut of G-20, Government of India organised Two-Days Intra-College Sports Meet 2022-23. The event included both indoor and outdoor games like Volley-ball, Badminton, Chess and Carom-Board. Around 60 students actively participated in the games. The programme started with the welcome address by Prof. Poonam Kundan (HOD Environmental Sciences) where she briefed the students about the importance of games and how it is beneficial to restrain oneself from harmful deadly drugs. She further said that the main objective of this meet is to generate awareness about the social and health hazards of drug abuse and motivate the students towards a drug-free life and society. The Keynote address to the meet was presented by Prof. Anil Bhagat (Convenor Sports Committee) where he apprised that besides just being fun, sports can helps to perform better in educational institutions, relax more and worry less, deal with setbacks, work better with others and increases the energy and all of which helps us to balance everything going on in the life. The first day of the sport meet started with indoor games and in carom, 6 boys team participated in it out of which three teams qualified for semi-finals. Final match was won by team-B (Anshul Sharma, B.Com-II and Goutam Mahajan, B.Com-II). Girls’ team also participated in carom board game in which the game was won by Monika Sharma, B.A-IV and Pallvi Bhagat, B.A-IV. In chess, four teams participated and the game was won by Manjeet Singh of B.Com- IV. The second day of the meet consists of outdoor games involving Volley-ball and Badminton. In volley ball match, two teams participated team-A and team-B and the game was won by team-A which was lead by Shahid Rehman of B.A-II. In Badminton [Boys], Eight number of teams participated and the Game was finally won by the team of Parul and Vivek of Sem-IV. In Badminton [Girls], Four number of teams participated and the Game was won by the team of Monika Sharma and Pallvi Bhagat of B.A Sem-IV. The event was coordinated by Prof. Anil Bhagat and co-coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan, Mr. Goyal Giri (PTI), Ms. Amanpreet Kour, Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo and Dr.Gunjeet Mahiwal Ms. Sandhya Bhagat, Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Ms. Sonia Devi The program was organized under the able guidance of Prof. Vandana Gupta, Principal GDC Vijaypur where she extorted that playing sports helps to grow brain and makes it work better. Moreover sports and physical education provide a great opportunity for youth to head outside, get active, and focus on developing different skills. She highlighted the role of educational institution in coping up with the menace of drug-addiction. She further encouraged the students to refrain themselves and their friends from straying into the dark path of drug-abuse. She again congratulated all the participants and the winning teams. Refreshments were given to all the participants.
