Plantation Drive at GDC Vijaypur under Mission-LIFE and G20 Government Degree College, Vijaypur organized plantation drive in the college premises under the flagship banner of ‘Mission- LiFE and G20. Principal of the college Dr. Vandana Gupta along with teaching and non-teaching staff, Green Warriors and NSS volunteers planted saplings in the college campus to make college campus green which is the need of the hour as the global warming has resulted a massive damage to the environment. In such a situation it is the responsibility of each and every citizen to plant and to take care of trees so as to keep the environment clean and green. The plantation drive initiated with the welcome address by Prof. Poonam Kundan (Head Department of Environmental Sciences and Convener Eco-Club) where she briefed the students about the importance of planting trees as they are the life lines for survival on Earth. She also explicited the benefits of various saplings that were planted along with their common and scientific names. She motivated the students to plant saplings and also to take ample steps to protect our own environment. Students of the college enthusatically participated in this plantation drive where species of Alstonia, Toon, Cassia fistula, Thevetia, Kaner etc. were planted by Green warriors and NSS volunteers. Various other plants including medicinal, herbal and few ornamental species were also planted during this drive. Whole of the event was conducted under the able guidance of Principal of the College, Dr. Vandana Gupta where she apprised the students about the significance of “Afforestation” and how plantation can save us from the doom. She also emphasized about the involvement of students and other members of society in the preservation of ecosystem. She further laid emphasis on the conservation of nature and natural resources in order to preserve resources for future generation. The drive was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan (Convener Ecoclub) and Dr. Shittal Sharma (Convener NSS) and co-coordinated by Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo and Ms. Disha Arti.
