GDC Vijaypur organized an Extension Lecture on ‘Significance of Language & Its Efficacy’ Language is essentially a means of communication among the members of a society. A common language is one of the most important features of a community and the ceaseless use of the same language is the most certain proof of the historical continuity of a community of people. Thus for a community to exist, its language needs to be preserved. So, in this connection, Government Degree College Vijaypur organised an extension Lecture on the theme ‘Significance of Language and its Efficacy’. The event commenced with the welcome address by Ms. Gurpreet Kour. Dr. Rajinder Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu was the resource person where he expressed his views on the said theme. He further added that one of the most important functions of language is to build a sense of commonality with one’s readers. Language which is foreign and unfamiliar to the listener tends to emphasis the differences between speaker and the listener and makes the message or the meaning difficult to understand. By using a language that is familiar to the listener, the message is likely to have more impact, he said. The event was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Vandana Gupta, Principal of the College. In her address to the gathering she said that local languages like dogri, Punjabi, urdu, Sanskrit, etc. needs to be focussed on. Students of the College participated in the event with great zeal and fervor. They also actively participated in the question and answer session with the resource person. The event was organised by Dr. Shittal Sharma and Prof. Poonam Kundan. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Naseem Chowdhary.
