GDC Vijaypur organises Poetry Recitation Competition on Drug Abuse

  2024-09-14

As part of the series of events being organised under “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” a poetry recitation competition on the theme, “Say no to Drugs, Yes to Life” was organised by Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Committee of the college in collaboration with NSS Unit (KHIDMAT). The activity was organised under the supervision and guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Verma, Principal of the college. More than 20 college students participated in the activity with great enthusiasm, fervour and zeal. The event commenced with the welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Anoop Kumar Bhagat, Nodal Officer, Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan Committee. He emphasized upon the message of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan among the college students and the faculty. He further briefed the students that early use of drugs increases a person's chances of becoming addicted. Remember, drugs change the brain—and this can lead to addiction and other serious problems. So, preventing early use of drugs or alcohol may go a long way in reducing these risks. Students put forwarded their ideas into words through their poetry highlighting the menace of drug abuse and how to prevent it. Principal of the college, Dr. (Prof.) Vandana Verma while speaking upon the occasion stated that a supportive family environment plays a crucial role in preventing substance abuse. Family members not only offer emotional support and guidance but also create a safe space that actively discourages drug use. There is a significant inverse relationship between strong family bonds and the likelihood of substance abuse, highlighting the protective effect robust familial relationships can have against the development of such disorders where parental support, communication, and family climate can protect teens from risky behaviour. Whole of the event was organized with the full support of the senior faculty members like Prof. Anita Jamwal (HOD Political Science), Prof. Mamta Gupta (HOD Commerce), Dr. Anoop Kumar Bhagat (HOD Sociology) and Prof. Ritu Bhagat (HOD Education). The whole event was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan (HOD Environmental Science), Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (NSS PO and HOD English), Dr. Manoj Heer (HOD Dogri) and Prof. Meetu Sharma (HOD Geography). Refreshments were also distributed to all the participants during the event.
