GDC Vijaypur Organises Group Discussion on Drug Abuse

GDC Vijaypur Organises Group Discussion on Drug Abuse Nasha Mukt Committee of Government Degree College Vijaypur in collaboration with J&K Police, Jammu Samba Kathua Range organized a group discussion on drug abuse to create awareness among the young college students/citizens about the impact of drugs on mental health, social health, psychological health and family health. The event started with the welcome address by Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal (Lecturer Education) which was followed by lamp lightening and singing of Saraswati Vandana. Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Gupta briefed the students about the aim of organizing such an event because drug abuse may lead to social, physical, emotional, and job- related problems. A team from J&K Police, JSK Range comprising of SDPO Vijaypur, DSP Rohit Gupta, DSP Raman Kumar (DIG Office Jammu), SHO Vijaypur Zaheer Manhas and ASI, Tarsem Lal visited GDC Vijaypur for the programme. DSP Rohit Gupta (SDPO Vijaypur) briefed students regarding various challenges administration is facing in curbing the menace of drug abuse. He further shared various preventive measures that can be adopted by the civil society to keep a check on illegal and anti-social activities. He also interacted with students and also answered the questions raised by them. Sixteen college students participated in the group discussion which was divided into three rounds where students shared their views on the drug abuse and various preventive measures. Winners of the group discussion were awarded with cash prize which was decided by jury members of the competition namely, Prof. Anita Jamwal (HOD Political Science), Prof. Mamta Gupta (HOD Commerce) and Dr. Anoop Bhagat (HOD Sociology and Convenor Nasha Mukt Abhiyan Committee). First prize of Rs. 2500/- was won by Shail Lalotra, second prize of Rs. 1500/- by Akash and third prize of Rs. 1000/- by Iqra. The program received positive feedback from the students, who found it informative and engaging. Principal of the college, Prof. Dr. Vandana Gupta appreciated the efforts of the Police Department in organizing such an informative and educative lecture and also for creating awareness about drug abuse. Formal Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Radhika Rasyal. The program was organized by NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) and Nasha Mukt Committee.The event was coordinated by Prof. Ritu Bhagat (HOD Education) and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (NSS PO) and co-coordinated by Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal, Dr. Radhika Rasyal, Dr. Priyanka Ganjoo, and Prof. Renuka Kundal.
